Transcript:Guide to the Xbox Live Arcade
Hi! I’m Mark Zamora, gaming expert, here for About.com. In this video, I’ll walk you through the Xbox Live Arcade, a digital game library you can access via the Game Marketplace on Xbox Live.
Download Through the Xbox Live Arcade
Unlike big-name titles like Call of Duty or Halo, these are smaller games available for download right to your console. In order to access these games, your xbox must be connected to Xbox Live, and unless you want to play online multiplayer, you only need a free Silver account to access these titles.
While in your Xbox Dashboard, choose the “Games” tab, and click on “Marketplace.” Here you’ll find a number of categories but we’re focused on Arcade, right here. Here, you can view New Releases, the Most Popular titles, or sort them all from A-Z. Feel free to browse, as you’ll find many of the Arcade titles have free demos so you can try them out before buying - useful if you’re on a budget and only want to download the best games.
Microsoft Points in the Xbox Live Arcade
Once you’re ready to buy some games - you’ll need Microsoft points. You can buy point cards at almost any electronics retailer. Or, if you want to skip the stores - you can purchase codes through the Xbox website, or even Amazon.com. The Xbox website will add points to your account automatically, but if you get a code from a retailer - press the xbox button on your controller, go to the Marketplace Tab, and choose “Redeem Code.”
Purchasing and Storing Games from the Xbox Live Arcade
Now that you have some points to spend - select the game you want and this will pop up. Its important to note that you must have enough hard drive space and Microsoft points in order to buy and download a game. Once you purchase them, they are forever tied to your Xbox Live account - so if anything ever happens to your console, you’ll always have the games you download. And that’s it! Without the hassle of going to the store, picking out a disc game or going to a game rental shop, you’ve got new games to play on your 360.
