Hi I'm Susan Harding with About.com and today we're sharing tips for getting kids excited about going back to school.
Ways to Get Kids Excited About Going Back to School
Make the first day special. That can mean planning a new first day outfit that your child will love to wear. Make sure it's something they want to wear and not what you think would be the perfect outfit to start the new year. And make sure they don't wear it until the first day. As your child looks forward to wearing the new outfit, she'll end up looking forward to the first day of school as a result.
Getting new school supplies can create a bit of excitement for the new year. When you're purchasing new school supplies, let your child pick out one thing that they don't absolutely need, but would love to have. It could be something small, and if they do want something more expensive, you can always encourage them to earn money and save up for it.
Take a look at school activities and find something your child will enjoy doing outside of class. Check the school's website or visit the school to find more information. If your child has after school activities like a book club to join, or gymnastics or cheerleading, she'll have more to look forward to than just a regular school day.

The fun doesn't have to end when school begins – check the school's calendar and See what days your kids will have off this year. Then plan something special to do during one of those breaks, so they have something to look forward to during the school year.
Take a moment out of your busy schedule and take your child to visit the school and the playground before school begins, especially if it's a new school. By knowing a little about where everything is in the school and spending time having fun on the playground, your child should feel less anxious when its time for thefirst day of class.
