Transcript:Finding Time for Home Cleaning
Hi, I am Kathy Moore for About.com. As a work at home Mom, I find the busier I get, the harder it is to keep up with regular house cleaning. This program will offer some ideas on how to be a work-at-home mom and still get the housework done. While working at home can be a convenience, it also has its downside. One of the challenges is that you never really leave the workplace. At least at a regular office there is a custodial staff to keep things clean and orderly. Since I do not have a housekeeper, I have developed some other strategies to keep up with cleaning at my home and my home office.
Create a To-Do List
As with most projects, successful execution begins with a to-do list. I make a weekly cleaning list and keep it on the refrigerator. That way I am reminded of what cleaning tasks I need to accomplish and I can check-off items as they are completed.Chores for the Kids
As much as possible I get the kids to help. Even very young children can do simple jobs like sweeping and dusting. Kids like to mimic adult behavior and having them help with the housework is good training too.Ask Your Partner For Help
Don’t forget to ask your partner to share some of the housework. My husband actually likes to vacuum and we share the laundry responsibilities.Multitask Home Cleaning
During my work hours, I find that I can multitask by folding or putting away the laundry while I am talking with clients on the phone. And when I need a break from my home office I can spend a few minutes getting caught up on the dishes.Put the Kids to Bed
I find that some cleaning jobs are just easier to complete when the kids are not around. So tasks like washing the floors, I save for after the kids have gone to bed at night. If these ideas don’t work for you, don’t worry, if you can afford it, you can always hire a cleaning service.
