Hello, I'm Nathanael Rittichier with About.com. And today I'm going to show you how to insert pictures into a Word document.
How to Insert a Picture or Image into Microsoft Word
So you're working on your document and you're getting to a place where you would like to insert a picture that corresponds with your text or you just want to be fancy and have a picture. Microsoft Word has made it really really easy to do this. All you have to do ids select the area where you would like to insert this picture and then come up here to our tabs. Right on the top left hand screen. And we're going to go to the Insert tab.
If you look at these options you'll notice they actually give us the option for Picture. What we're going to do is we are going to click Picture, and then find the picture that we want to insert. We will insert a logo. And here we have the picture inserted into the document.
How to Adjust a Picture or Image in Word
Now, Microsoft gives us the ability to change the size and the way that this looks within our document. Right up here in your Tools, a picture format option should pop up. To change the way the picture looks you simply click through your various options. If you want to give it a boarder you simply go through and click on the various boarders. See which one you like best and you use that one.
Now to change the size of your picture, you'll again go to the format tab. And under height and width you simply start clicking down or up, depending on what size you want. A word of caution, if you do increase the size it does have a tendency to pixelate once the size gets bigger than what the actual image is. So we are going to downsize to right about there.
How to Wrap Text Around a Picture or Image in Word
Another cool part of Microsoft Word is what's called Text Wrap. It allows you to place text around the picture so you don't have a huge text break for your picture. To do this we are going to go up here to the text wrap option it's a pull-down and if you notice, it gives us several options for aligning our text around our picture.
If you just hold your mouse over an option it will actually give you a preview of what it would look like. We have the ability to put the picture behind the text we have the ability to lay the picture on top of the text. I think the one we're actually going to want is having the text actually wrap around the picture. So, we're going to click the Square option. And there you have it.
How to Adjust the Placement of a Picture or Image in Word
One more option that word gives us when inserting a picture is that of positioning your picture in your document. You don't have to have a left justified picture you can actually place it anywhere in the picture we want with text surrounding it. So let's insert another picture. We'll go to Insert, go to the Picture tab. Find the picture we want to insert and simply click Insert.
Again, we're going to resize so we'll go up to our height. I'm going to highlight the size and just type in a custom size. I'm going to type in 1 inch. And there we have it. Now to position this we simply go to our position pull-down, click Position. This gives us many options for positioning within our text. To apply, we simply click and it's applied. And there we have it.
That's how you insert pictures into Microsoft Word. Thanks so much for watching! For more information visit us online at About.com.
