Hello, this is Adam Watstein for About.com.

Why Change Page Margins in a Word Document?

Keep in mind that there are many reasons why you might need to change the margins in a document. Maybe you want to make the margins longer because you're giving your document to someone and they're going to be writing feedback for you and you want to give them more space to write with. You might want to change the margins for that reason or maybe you have to deliver the document with a required margin size and therefore would have to change the margins for that reason. But whatever the reason, changing margins is really easy to do, and here's how to do it.

Instructions for Changing Page Margins

In the page layout tab, you'll find Page Setup and then there you'll find Margins. Select it, and then you'll see numerous preset options for you to choose from. If, for some reason, you can't find the one you're looking for, you can always customize the margin. And you do that by going into Custom Margins, and in here, I can just select the top arrow to change the margin at the top of the page. And I can do the same for the left, the right – whatever I change can be seen in the Preview window. So as I go up and down and changing my margins to fit the size that I need, I can see how it's going to affect the page on the bottom.

Select Ok when you've decided and then you'll see the adjustment on your page that you have set your margins for. For more information, please visit About.com.
