Transcript:How to Insert a Footnote or Endnote in Microsoft WordHello David Dietrich here with About.com. In this video we are going to be looking at how to insert footnotes and endnotes into your document using Microsoft Word.
Steps for Inserting a Footnote or Endnote in Microsoft WordAdding a footnote or endnote takes just a few clicks. First you will want to click on the point in your text that you want the reference to be placed. Next navigate to the reference tab and under the footnotes group click insert footnote, you can also hold down CTRL + ALT and hit F. This will place a footnote at the bottom of the page for the reader to reference.
Adding an Endnote in Microsofty WordTo add an endnote is the same processes but simply click add endnote instead or holding CTRL + ALT and hitting D. Footnotes will show up at the bottom of the page by default and Endnotes will show up at the end of the document. If you would like to change this click to open the footnote and endnote dialogue box and change the settings.To find the footnotes or endnotes in your paper head back to the footnotes group, click the drop down box to navigate to the next or previous footnote or endnote.To delete a footnote or end note just select it with your cursor and press delete. The list will automatically update with the appropriate order. Starting with the beginning of your paper and working to the bottom.
