Transcript:Change Margins in Word

Hi, I’m Shane Murphy, your technology Guru for About.com. Today we’ll review how to customize the margins in your word document.

Click and Drag

The easiest way to adjust your margins is to click and drag the dividing lines between the blue and white shadings on the ruler. As a default, this mark will be “hidden” behind the indentation arrows, so you’ll have to move them first.

Page Layout

You can more finely customize your margin’s parameters by selecting page layout tab and click the margins button. You’ll be shown a list of standard margins variations here. Click custom margins at the bottom to create your own.

Set the Margin Value

Here you can set whatever value you’d like for the margins on each side of the document. You can make more radical changes too, like rotating the orientation to landscape or configure word to adjust the margins in anticipation of different ways to combine multiple pages, like book formatting.

Check out About.com’s dedicated word processing channel for more useful information on customizing your word documents. Thanks for watching, to learn more, visit About.com.
