Transcript:How to Do a Pinup Hair Style: Victory RollsHello I'm Kacie Marie and this is About.com. So a little birdie told me that retro is back. I'm going to show you how to do a 1950s inspired hairdo called the pompadour.
'50s Pompadour Hairdo SuppliesThe tools you'll need to do this classic style are: some hairspray, a brush and some bobby bins. You can get them for a couple bucks at any convenient store. Let's get started and swing on back to the 50s.
Curl the HairYou can do this style with any kind of hair but I find it easiest to start out with curls. Right now my part is right down the center. I'm going to move it over just a couple inches, make it a look a little more fancy. So I'm going to brush my hair forward on top and create my part just a few inches over to the left. It gives it a nice fancy, angled look. You can do it on the left or right side, whatever your preference.
We're going to start out by using your brush and take a nice chuck right from the front of your hair. A couple inches wide. Next you want to give the group of hair a nice little spritz. This helps the curl stay in for longer.
Pin the HairNow here's the tricky part. What you want to do is grab your strand of hair right in the middle with two fingers. Now with the other hand, you're going to take the hair and wrap it around your fingers and wrap it up to your head like it's a cord. All the way up to your scalp, you want to grab your bobby bin, separate it with one finger and go right around the scalp. Put it right through the curl, one in the front and one in the back.
Now after you're all pinned up, you want to give it a nice spritz. Using the bottle, smooth it out in the direction of the curl. That puts the little pieces down.
Now we're going to do the same thing with the other side. Brush out a nice chuck of hair and spritz it with some hairspray from root to tip. Now again, we're going to put the two fingers right in the middle of strand and with the other hand we're going to wrap loosely around the two fingers and just like a cord, one hand after the other we're going to wrap it all the way up to the sky. And pin it right along your scalp just grabbing the curl, one in the front and one in the back.
With this hairdo you have a lot of options. You can make the curls bigger or smaller. You can make them asymmetrical or symmetrical.
Now look at that. In just minutes I have a 1950s hairdo, and I'm ready for the hop. For more information, go to About.com. Until next time!
