Hi, I'm Jessica Whalen with Arrojo Studio in New York City, here with About.com. Today, we're going to talk about how to take care of the different curly hair types.Wavy Hair Types
This is Abbey, she's my model. She has relaxed to wavy hair, so we're going to do something to make her hair more wavy. I'm going to use our volume foam, so we can get some hold at the roots. This is something really easy so she can, everyday, make her hair more full and have more curl to it. Another trick to do -- a nice finishing -- is to use a holding spray. It's a light hairspray and it also adds shine.Curlier Hair Types
This is my second model, Kelly, and Kelly has very natural curly hair. More than Abbey's her hair is a bit curlier. What I'm going to do with Kelly's hair is refresh her curls with some curl cream. This will bring the curl out and give it some shine. I'm also going to use some styling cream, which has hold, so this will hold the curl. And with curly hair, too, it's nice to have shorter pieces around the face, so we'll bring Kelly's bangs forward. And also a good thing to do is to take your fingers and put them right at the roots and shake it out at the root, so it doesn't get frizzy. It has a nice finish.Kinky Hair Types
So finally, we have Ellie here, and the difference between Ellie and the other girls is that she has tighter, kinkier curl and she has coarser hair. Like you see, she has a really beautiful, natural curl. So what we're going to do is put some curl cream in, which, with her coarser hair, is going to give it shine and make the curl look really great. To refresh her hair, I'd use some shine spray -- for instance, later in the day, if you just want it to look great. You can spray the shine spray right into your hands, just a few pumps, and really shake it out at the root. And also, with her hair, as you can see with the highlighted pieces, that really brings out the defiance in the curl.Find a Great Hairdresser
And so on that note, finally, I would say the most important thing with curly hair is finding a really great hairdresser who knows how to give you a great haircut. You really have to have a great shape, because without that, your hair is going to look dull and it won't matter what products you use -- you really need to have a great shape. Thanks for watching.
