Transcript:Control and Maintain Frizz in Humid Weather

Hi, I'm Antonia Troiano from Arrojo Studio in New York City, here for About.com. Today I'd like to share with you some tips for the "curly girls" to control and maintain their curls in the humid and hot weather -- and keep the frizz from growing on you!

Find Product for Curly Hair

This is Andrea, and I'd like to show you how to use some styling products to control your curl. Andrea has a medium to coarse texture curly hair, and in this situation, I like to use a little bit of frizz control and a little bit of texture paste. The two of these products mixed together gives you a medium type of consistency. The texture paste is going to congeal the curl and the frizz control is going to help control the frizz and add lots of shine -- so that each curl is going to be really defined. You work it completely through all of the hair, make sure that the product is really evenly distributed. You can either use your fingers or a wide-toothed comb.

For somebody who has finer hair or who has a problem in the humidity with saggy curls as well as frizz -- and who needs to keep her curl nice and elevated and bouncy -- I would highly recommend the curl cream with a little bit of the styling cream. The curl cream is going to give you more volume and more curl support, while the styling cream is going to give you a base, so it's going to give a little bit more hold as well. So when you cocktail the two products together, you get a perfect consistency.

Twist the Hair for Controlled Curls

And then we're going to go in and section out little section of random pieces of hair, and just twist them around your finger. It doesn't have to be in any particular order. Just like this, all the way around the hair. And another cool thing is when you're twisting the hair up, if it comes out a little bit at the end, just give it a little twist at the end with your fingers -- a little rub. That will keep the curl in place, so that when you move on to the next step, which is either letting it air dry or diffusing it, the curls don't fall apart.

Diffuse the Hair for Frizz Control

In order to style this curly hair, I'm going to use a diffuser. The reason we want to use a diffuser is because it distributes the air in a different way. As opposed to shooting the hair with straight-on air flow, it's going to make it much, much softer. So it's going to be as if she were sitting under a dryer.

Medium setting, I'm going to use my fingers and apply them right at the base of the hair. I'm not putting my fingers through her hair - I'm just putting them under for support. And I'm not touching her hair with the blower either. You don't want to touch the hair with the diffuser because the more you aggravate the curl and the setting, the more it will grow and the bigger it will get.

Finish the Curly Hair Look

To finish the style, I'm just going to take my fingers and put them right into the base of the hair, and I'm going to shake out the twists that I made earlier -- so it's not completely congealed.

And there you go -- frizz-free curl! Thanks for watching. To learn more, visit us on the web at About.com.
