  • body builders
  • some high performance athletes
  • pregnant women
  • the elderly
  • some people with physical disabilities
  • certain ethnic minorities who were under-represented when the BMI charts were being developed

BMI Measurements as a Screening Tool

That is why it BMI is a screening tool, an initial look that requires further investigation.

When the BMI is in the Overweight Range, there is a higher statistical risk of disease, although many people in that range are perfectly healthy.
