Transcript:How to Make a "Stock the Bar" Themed Bridal Shower Invitation

Hi! I am Sarah Meyer Walsh, Owner of Haute Papier, and today I am going to show you a great idea for a coed wedding shower. How about a stock the bar party?

A stock the bar party is a wedding shower of sorts, where the guests all bring a bottle of something to contribute to the new couple's liquor cabinet or wine cabinet. For example, a bottle of your favorite wine that you have all shared together or your favorite brand of tequila for the summertime margaritas. We are going to show you how to make a box invitation with a bottle of champagne and an invitation that will really set the tone for your event.

Use Wine Boxes as Shower Invitations

So you will need to find some wooden boxes, wine boxes work great. There is also paper ones available, but the authenticity of the wooden ones is really nice. And then you will need some filler for your boxes to protect your wine or champagne. We use raffia here, which is available at craft stores and other online retailers. You are also going to need whatever you are going to put in your boxes. In this case, we use mini bottles of Veuve Clicquot. The party was Veuve Clicquot inspired with the colors and the logo and everything. So that's what we did in this case.

Package the Invitation

Your bottles are going to go inside with your raffia, and then we recommend putting a little bit more raffia on top of the bottle, just as extra padding during the shipment process. See, you can just go ahead and really protect it nicely in the box. Then, you are going to need some vellum, and specifically if you are printing this at home, you are going to want to get inkjet vellum. And there is a difference; other vellum doesn't dry the same as inkjet vellum, and inkjet is what most home printers are. Vellum is a paper that's slightly see-through. It just has a really nice sheen. It's a little bit fancier and it will look great. You will still be able to see your wine bottle through it a little bit.

Design the Invitation

You are going to lay out your invitation in whatever design program you are working on; you could also download a template online. Here's an example of one that we have printed that coordinated with the yellow and the black from the Veuve Clicquot label. So you are going to print those and then trim them, and then they will go right on the top of your box. And like I said, the vellum is nice because it's a little bit translucent, just translucent enough that you can sort of see what's going on underneath it in the box. It gives a little added texture, little bit of a different feel.

So once you tuck your invitation into the box, you can go ahead and seal it and you are ready for mailing. So whether you are going to take them to the Post Office to put in another box, or you are going to courier them to your guests, you are ready to go. And that's how you make a wine invitation that gives you a different feel for a coed shower, perfect for a stock the bar party.
