Transcript:Make Wedding Table Place Cards on Your Computer

Hi, I'm Rachel Edelman for About.com. Most wedding couples need to make your own table place cards for your guests. I'm going to show you a way to print out labels with the names using your guest list on your computer. Then, you can place them on cards and add your own special touches.

Arrange Your Guest Spreadsheet

First hide the columns so you are just looking at all of the Name columns and the Table Number Column. Then, update your guest list spreadsheet so that each couple or individual has a table number next to their name. Be sure that each name that needs its own place card has its own row. Usually you try to keep the labels in alphabetical order so they will be ready to put out at the wedding.

Create a Word Document for the Labels

Next, set up a Word document in the style of your labels. If you buy specialty labels, download the template from the company's website.

Merge the Documents

Now, connect the template with your spreadsheet. Click on 'Tools,' 'Letters and Mailings,' and to go to the mail merge function. Select 'Labels,' then use current document. Next, browse for your guest list spreadsheet. Once you click, un-check any of the empty rows. Then, delete any text in the first label, and then click arrange your labels and the "more items" category.

Insert the normal name field and the table field. Go back to the label and set it up how you would like it. I'll put the name at the top, and type in Table. Now, press, update all labels. Click complete the merge, and preview your labels for individual editing. This way you can see all the labels before you print them.

Test Your Guest Card Fonts

It's important to test your font choice, size, and spacing on regular printer paper, before you print everything out on the sticker labels. Take the info from each label and try out some different fonts and sizes that you like. Compare this printout to the real labels. Choose what you like best. It may take a few tries before you have the perfect fit.

Print the Wedding Guest Cards

Once you have finalized the labels on the computer, print it out the real labels.

Decorate the Wedding Guest Cards

You could put these labels on your favor or on simple tented cards like these. For an extra special touch, you can put additional stickers, stamps, or push pins on the cards to tie it into your colors or themes.
