Hi I'm Don Schechter for About.com computing. Today I'll talk about the importance of image size.Image Size Online and Why It Matters
Any images you use on your website could have an impact on a visitor's experience. Images usually play an important role on a website by expressing a purpose, or establishing a brand. Why Resize an Image?
Its a good idea to resize images for the web. The smaller the picture file the faster it will be able to load on slow modems. Images that are too big will slow down the loading time and pictures too small may be hard to see of decipher. So find a size that will fit well with the rest of the content on your page.Resizing an Image Using Photoshop
One way you can resize an image you want to use on a webpage is to bring it into Photoshop. Ill open this in photoshop and go up to file, and choose save for web. A window will open. In the right sidebar where it says gif, click the drop down menu and choose jpeg. Take a look at the bottom of the window and youll see the size and amount of time the photo will take to upload. In the quality drop down menu choose a lower quality for a smaller picture and fasterIf you choose to put up thumbnail or smaller pictures, you can make them into links so viewers can see a larger version of the image. This provides users the option of seeing the image with more detail.
If you choose to just use small images on your website, make sure they are less complicated. A detailed photo can lose its detail and can be difficult for visitors to interpret. If you can, use the original image without scaling it down.
