Hi, this is Dimitri LaBarge for About.com. Today we're going to talk about how to pick an HTML editor for the Mac.Macintosh OS X is a very popular platform for developers and building websites, especially with artists and graphic designers.
Good HTML Editors for a Mac
What are good HTML editors for the Mac and what should you look for? Maybe the most popular and most noteworthy web editor is Dreamweaver from Adobe. It's an exceptionally robust and powerful solution. It can handle complex tasks like XML development, PHP, VB Script, and much more. Dreamweaver offers functionality to keep websites organized and in sync, and terrific inspection modes to help keep your code clean and free of errors.
Additional Pluses of Dreamweaver on a Mac
One of the other advantages of Dreamweaver is interoperability with other products in the Adobe line. Adobe Flash and Photoshop are natural complements with graphics and animation capability in one master suite. One downside, as has always been the case with Adobe, it can be pretty pricey. Still, you can do pretty much anything that you would need in web design.
Komodo IDE for an HTML Editor on a Mac
Another solution is Komodo IDE, or integrated development environment. One of the great advantages of Komodo is its flexibility with multiple programming languages, such as Python 3, PHP and Ruby on Rails. It also features a database editor which makes it easy to run queries on live database sources.
Komodo Edit on a Mac
Also available is Komodo Edit, which is a free and more barebones version of Komodo IDE. Another terrific open source solution is Aptana Studio 3. This IDE specializes in building rich web applications. Aptana has first-rate debugging and code-assist features, which really help the power developer. Aptana's Code Assist even tells you the level of support different HTML elements have in different browsers.
