Transcript:How to Create a Template in Dreamweaver
Hi, I’m Herman Mak for About.com, and today I’m going to show you how to make a template in Dreamweaver.
Design Your Layout in Dreamweaver
To make a template in Dreamweaver, you need to start by designing your layout by yourself or you can download templates that are already designed and prepared as well. There are many websites with free templates design that you can download from with complete package of the files.
Open the the file you downloaded or made. Create a "site" structure first by clicking "site" - "new site" and specify a name for the site and a folder to store your files. click "save".
Save as Template
Now click "file" - "save as template" and choose the site you just created, give it a name and a brief description and now the template is saved.
Start by creating editable regions on the page! Click into the blocks in the page which you want that part to be editable on every page you create. Click "insert" - "template objects" - "editable region" and click "ok". By creating editable regions you will now be able to make new pages with the template but with a few places that you can modify and a lot of other places that are locked to look the same way. Now click "save."
Using Your Saved Template
Start by making webpages with the template!
Click "file" - "new"
Select "page from template and choose your template that you just worked on. Click "ok". Now here you can make your webpage and save them up. Repeat the process to create different pages with the same template!
