Transcript:Quick Tip: Overhand Volleyball Serving Motion
Hi, I'm Joshua Manary from About.com and this is overhand serving motion in volleyball.
Reason for Overhand Serving Motion
Overhand serving motion is very common and very important. The reason for this motion is because you actually get the most motion on the ball. You push it over the net with the force of swinging your arm over your head. By throwing the ball above your head and hitting it, you give yourself the best chance to get it over the net.
Process of Overhand Serving Motion
For example, you would take the ball and throw it up in the air above yourself about 1-2 feet, you smack it forward with an open hand position and it should go over the net. With the overhand motion you can put the most amount of pressure without having to exert yourself in any other way to get the ball over the net and complete the play.
