Transcript:What Does Co-Op Mean?
Hi I'm Vincent Modica for About.com and I'm going to explain what co-op is.
What is Co-op Gameplay?
Co-op or co-operative gameplay is a way of playing games where more then one person plays the game and where all the players are working towards a common goal. Co-op can either be played in person or over the internet.
The usefulness of the players other then first player varies from game to game. In games such as the Sonic the Hedgehog series, the second player plays as Tails. Tails is generally invincible but the camera doesn't follow him. And if Sonic dies so does Tails.
But not all games are like this. Many games won't allow the camera to move if both players aren't ready.
Popular Co-op Games
Because most of the popular games of today are first person shooters most of the so are today's co-op games. Games like Borderlands, Rainbow Six Vegas and the Gears of Wars Series.
Classic co-op games were more platformer or beat-em up oriented. Games such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles- Turtles in Time, Double Dragon and River City Ransom.
Modern examples include Castle Crashers, Marvel Ultimate Alliance and The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles- Turtles in Time remake.
