Hi, I am Nadia Chapman for About.com. Cooking without eggs is easy. If you are a vegan, are allergic to eggs, or if you want to lower your cholesterol, you will have to learn to cook without this popular ingredient. Here's a few tips on how to use egg replacers.

Use Commercial Egg Replacers When Cooking

You can buy commercial egg replacer at the store, which is a prepared mix of various starches that is ready to be mix with water. Egg replacers are convenient since they are ready to use, and a box goes a long way. You can buy commercial egg replacer at your local health food store, large groceries, or online.

Use Fruits to Bake With Egg Replacer

For baked goods such as bread, muffins or cakes, try using fruits. You can replace one egg with half a mashed banana, or with about 1/4 cup of applesauce. The fruits add texture, flavor and moisture to your recipe! Just keep in mind that adding those ingredients instead of eggs won't make your baked goods rise, so make sure your dish contains baking powder or baking soda.

Use Tofu to Cook With Egg Replacer

If you bake dishes such as quiche, egg salad (I should say eggless salad), or want to imitate scrambled eggs and make an omelet without eggs, you should try tofu. Don't forget the seasoning, as tofu is quite tasteless.

Mix Soy Milk and Vinegar to Create an Egg Replacer

If you are going eggless, you should know about mixing soy milk with apple cider vinegar. Together, they coagulate and make your baked goods rise. This little mixture adds moisture and fluffiness to your recipes. To replace an egg, mix 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar with 3 ounces of soy milk.

Mix Ground Flax Seeds and Water to Create an Egg Replacer

Another good trick is to substitute eggs with a mixture of ground flax seeds and water. This adds Omega 3's to your dish and makes the perfect texture for pancakes, cookies or muffins. To replace one egg, use 1 tablespoon of ground flax seeds and mix with 3 tablespoons of water. Let the mix sit for a few minutes before using.

Try Soy Yogurt as an Egg Replacer

Another quick tip on cooking without eggs is to use soy yogurt in your recipe. For one egg you can use 4 tablespoons of soy yogurt. Thanks for watching and for more information, please visit us at About.com.
