How are you doing? I'm Tom Minor for About.com Food. I'm going to show you some nice techniques for chopping up the red onion, here.Remove Red Onion Peel
What you want to do is to cut off the ends, and to get the peel off, just make one little shallow cut like so, and then peel the outer edge off. You're going to want to watch, there's a soft layer of skin between every layer. It's very slippery.Chop the Onion
Cut it in half, and then, kind of like numbers on a clock, make little cuts all the way around your onion. Then go the other way, and leave it connected on the end so it stays together like so, so you can move it. Cut like so, and you get thousands of little diced onion pieces. Look at that, it comes right apart. Get to the end that was connected, chop it up, and there you go. It's a great base for any kind of sauce or chili or marinara. Anything -- very useful. Very useful vegetable to have. Thanks for watching. To learn more, visit us on the Web at food.about.com.
