Transcript:Cook Perfect Slow Cooker RiceHi I am Gina Miller with Abou.com Food. Today I am demonstrating how to cook rice in a slow cooker. This slow cooker rice recipe is virtually fool proof.
Unlike cooking rice on the stove top, you will not have to watch the rice carefully and you don't have to worry about the rice sticking or burning. Using a slow cooker is great if you need to make large amount of rice at one time and the rice is fluffy every time. Be sure to read the instructions for using your particular slow cooker. Be aware that the newer slow cookers cook food much faster than the older models, and the rice can burn if the temperature is set too high.
Ingredients to Make Slow-Cooker Rice:
- 1 Cup long grain rice of your choice brown or white.
- 2 Cups of water or 2 cups of non fat-low sodium vegetable broth
- 1 Tbsp of salt
- Non stick cooking spray
- A slow cooker
Allow Rice to Cook for Two Hours Before CheckingSpray the stoneware generously, with cooking spray. Then add the rice and liquid and salt. Stir and cover. Set slow cooker on a low temperature, and the timer for 2 hours and let it cook! It's important NOT to remove the lid, and let steam escape during the first 2 hours of cooking.
When you do check for doneness of the rice, and if the rice is still not cooked to your satisfaction, replace lid and cook for an additional 20 minutes or until it is cooked to your preference. When rice is done, turn your slow cooker to warm, and your rice will stay fluffy and delicious!
