Hi, My name is Jesse Blanchard for About.com and I am going to show you how to make a 3D TV. Making a 3D TV is actually pretty easy, the most difficult part is gathering all the pieces.Materials for Making a 3D TV
The first thing you want to get is a pair of polarized 3D glasses. These are pretty cheap and available online. Once you've purchased your 3D shades, you're going to use them to buy two LCD monitors. It's important that the monitors pass a simple test. Hold up the glasses, if one eye if black and the other is clear you have the right monitors. Basically, the polarization of the light is in line with the glasses. You can see this monitor here. Both the eyes are kind of murky. This one won't work. There is just one more unique item you need to make a 3D TV and that is a 50/50 mirror. Now, a 50/50 mirror is a mirror that is 50% reflective and 50% transparent. So if I put my hand here, you can see half the camera and my hand as well. These are available online -- just search 50/50 mirror. Okay, this is the enclosure for the 3d TV. It's a little daunting but the principle is very simple.

What you need to do is take one of your LCD monitors and this is gonna fit at the back of your enclosure. So, just build a box where the monitor can sit and fill in the back. Now, build support for the second LCD monitor to fit onto. And it's gonna fit on top with the top of the monitor touching the top of this monitor. Now that you have the monitors in place you need to build a support for your 50/50 mirror at a 45 degree angle to the monitors.
Now that I have it assembled, I'm going to hook it up and show you how it works. Alright, here is my 3D monitor all set up. I've got one LCD at the back, the second up top, and my mirror right here.
To show you that this is working, I'll take my specs and hold them up. You see the 2 through one eye that's the top monitor and the 1 through the other, that's the back monitor. Seen together, your brain creates the 3D image.
Now this monitor will not take any movie in your collection and make it 3D. It will only work with 3D content. To play, simply direct one of the two streams to each monitor, sit back and enjoy.
