Hi! This is Meghan Lynn Allen for About.com, and today we'll discuss some tips on what to do in New York City with your kids around the holidays.

New York City Broadway Plays

Take in a show! There are plenty of holiday shows to choose from in New York City, and starting off with the dancing shows: The Nutcracker, George Balanchine's famous ballet performed by the New York City ballet.

Or check out Radio City's Holiday Spectacular - that's with the dancing Rockettes.Or take it to Broadway. There are plays, musicals and all kinds of shows every day, every month of the year, especially during the holiday season. Ice Skate in New York City

If your family isn't afraid of a little cold weather, there are plenty of outdoor activities you can do as well. Why not lace up the skates and go ice skating?

You can hit the famous Rockefeller Center, go ice skating with the family, and also gaze up at that enormous Christmas tree - or you can go skating in Central Park.

There's a whole list of winter holiday programs that happen in Central Park and are perfect for families, including winter stargazing, making a menorah, Kwanzaa crafts, and even meeting jolly old Saint Nick. You can go to Centralparknyc.org for a whole list of events.

Holiday Themed New York City Attractions

The family can also visit some institutions that are there all year long that may have a program going on with a special twist. The New York Botanical Garden has a holiday train show, the Bronx Zoo has Wild Wonderland, and the Gray Line Bus has their holiday lights tour - that's the bus line famous for double-decker buses and hop-on-hop-off bus tours.
