Transcript:How to Play Cornhole

Hi, I'm Matt Ediger for About.com and this is your guide to corn-hole.

What Is Cornhole?

You've probably seen people tossing beanbags at a board with a hole in it at your local watering hole. This is the game of corn-hole otherwise know as corn toss. It's a cross between horseshoes and golf, the game can be played with up to four people and the object is to toss your beanbag into the hole.

Instructions for How to Play Cornhole

According to the American Cornhole Association this is how to play the game. You should place the two platforms 33 feet apart at the holes; you stand in the pitchers box, which is an imaginary box roughly the same size as the cornhole box and on either side. If you are playing as a doubles team your "inning" consists of you alternating tosses between the two of you at the opposing box, the goal is to get your bag into the other teams hole. If you are playing one on one you both stand on the same side and toss the bags as such. To earn points you must do either of the following. If you bag enters the hole you earn three points. If the bag lands on the box without hitting the ground first you earn one point. If at anytime the bag touches the ground it is considered a foul and no points are earned.

More Information About Cornhole

If you would like to build your own Cornhole platform here are the ACA's regulations for doing so. The platform should be 24 inches by 48 inches made from half inch plywood with a 6 inch diameter hold cut into it nine inches from the top and 12 inches from either side. The platform should be 12 inches tall at the back and 2 and half to 4 inches tall at the bottom. The angle should be as close to 90 as possible the surface should be sanded smooth, for tournament play the surface should be painted but for weekend fun this isn't necessary. The bags should be about six inches by six inches and filled with between 14 and 16 ounces of dried corn feed or about two cups worth. And be made out of a durable material like burlap or canvas. This is a fun easy to learn, easier to play game that's perfect for those summer get togethers.
