Transcript:Profile of the Formula Rossa
Hello, my name is Michael Sanchez for About.com. Today we'll be learning about Formula Rossa, the world's fastest roller coaster.
Formula Rossa is one of two roller coasters featured at Ferrari World, a Ferrari-themed amusement park in Abu Dhabi.
History of the Formula Rossa
The roller coaster was built by Swiss company, Intamin, a pioneer in hydraulic technology, and opened to the public on November 4th, 2010.
Formula Rossa Technical Specifications
Formula Rossa boasts a height of 174 feet with an initial drop of 169 feet. Riders are required to wear protective safety goggles during the ride to shield against insects and other airborne debris.
A hydraulic-launched roller coaster, Formula Rossa is capable of hitting a top speed of 150 MPH in 4.9 seconds exposing riders to a G-force of 1.7Gs. Prior to construction, the record for fastest roller coaster belonged to Six Flags Great Adventure's Kingda Ka, capable of 128 MPH, a number Formula Rossa has beat by more than 20.
