Transcript:How to Make Coconut RiceHi, I'm Roblé for About.com. Today I'm going to show make coconut rice.
Tips for Making Coconut RiceI'll be using basmati rice. You can apply the same principles to other types of rices. Just make sure that as your liquid you have a vegetable stock, chicken stock, the stock or any type of stock you would like. The trick is that you want to incorporate coconut milk into the recipe. So, use this recipe as your base and work off of that. Here we go.
Ingredients for Coconut RiceHere are our ingredients:
- 1 cup basmati rice
- 1 cup vegetable stock
- 3/4 cup coconut milk
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- kosher salt
Instructions for Making Coconut RiceSo, here we have a pot. Take your vegetable stock and pour it right into the pot. Take your coconut milk and pour it right into the pot. Give it a nice little stir. Now, take your rice and stir it right into the pot. Stir that around until it breaks up a little bit. We are going to let this rice soak right here for 20 minutes. So, 20 minutes later we are going to go ahead and season our rice with a nice healthy pinch of kosher salt. Add in your cayenne pepper. Give it a good stir. Make sure and incorporate everything together fully.
Turn your heat up too high and let it come up to a simmer. Once it comes up to a simmer reduce the heat down to low and let it simmer for 15 minutes. So, we've come up to a simmer. I'm going to reduce the heat to low, cover the pot and let it simmer for 15 minutes. So. our rice is done simmering. I'm going to let it sit for 10 minutes.
So, here is your coconut rice.
