The first is you've talked to them about sex, birth control and STDs. They appear to understand and they understand how important these are.

The second thing is that they are making good decisions. You've noticed in other areas of their life, that they're making decisions where they put themselves and their needs first, and they're being responsible, and they are thinking about safety.

The third sign is that they have a plan for unexpected situations. For example, if you have a daughter that isn't ready to engage in sexual activity, they have a plan on what to do should they feel pressure from their partner.
