Hi! I'm Adam Lauricella for About.com, and today, we're going to talk about how to draw a pin-up for a tattoo. We're here at Graceland Tattoo in Wappinger's Falls, New York.
Pin-Up Tattoo Sources
Pin-ups are a very popular and classic tattoo. You can get a custom pin-up tattoo drawn by a tattoo artist. There are a few factors to take into consideration and steps that your tattoo artist will have to take into account when sketching your pin-up tattoo art. You are always welcome to come into our tattoo studio and check out our portfolios and the flash designs to kind of get your gears turning. A lot of people already have an idea of what direction they want to go in. A lot of times people use the internet they try to find inspiration or books, they'll go to the library or they'll buy some books and it will push them in the direction they want to be.
Types of Pin-Up Tattoos
Some people come in and they have a very specific idea about the proportions they want the body. Do they want to have the pin-up have large breasts or a small waist or long legs, hair color. Sometimes guys come in and they want their pin-up to remind them of their wife or their girlfriend. I think it's important to find the tattooer that's right for the style of pin-up that you're looking for. The most classic would be a real traditional kind of sailor pin-up, similar to the old timers like Sailor Jerry or Ed Hardy. You can take it in that direction, otherwise you can base it off the famous painters like Vargas. The direction you want to go will totally determine the approach to the tattoo. Now you have a sketch for your pin-up tattoo. It's time for your tattoo artist to ink you and enjoy your new tattoo.
