Hi, this is Jon Gustavson with the Atlanta Georgia Table Tennis Association for About.com. Today we're going to talk about backspin.
How to Create Backspin in Table Tennis
You brush underneath the ball that is going to create backspin. It's also very effective to serve with backspin which is sometimes called underspin. Again, it's all about getting underneath the ball. As long as you're brushing underneath the ball, you should be creating some backspin. The faster your racket speed, the more you can brush it, the more spin you're going to create.
How to Use Backspin in Table Tennis Serves
Some serves that would create backspin would be coming underneath the ball like this or tossing it and coming under like this. When dealing with backspin again, stay close to the table and brush underneath it and send the backspin back at your opponent.
