Transcript:How to Add Spin to Your Table Tennis Game
Hi, I'm Will Shortz with the Westchester Table Tennis Center. Today I'm here for About.com and I'm going to show you how to add spin to your table tennis game.
Table Tennis Topspin and Backspin
The two most common spins in table tennis are topspin and backspin. If you're a right-handed player, arrange your feet so that your left foot is slightly in front of your right foot. Twist your waist back and turn your shoulders. Start with your paddle lower. Twist your waist back, bring your paddle up in a forward motion and as the brushes the paddle accelerate the paddle to put a top spin on the ball. Of course, I'm hitting it with my grip. That's the only way I know how to hit it.
Spin on Table Tennis Backhand Shot
To put topspin on a backhand shot, bend your knees, start with the paddle in this position with the wrists bent back slightly. Move forward and as the paddle brushes the ball, accelerate the paddle and finish with the paddle in a forward motion.
Sidespin is used most commonly in Table Tennis in serves.
