Today we'll be learning about American swimmer missy franklin.
Missy Franklin Biography
Melissa "Missy" Franklin was born in Pasadena, California on May 10th, 1995 and began swimming at the age of five. in 2010, at the age of 15, Franklin won two silver medals in the National Swimming Championships in the 100 and 200 meter backstroke competitions. That same year she won a third silver medal at the 2010 FINA Short Course World Championships in Dubai for her performance in the 200 meter backstroke. Later that year, at the Golden Goggle Awards she was named Breakout Performer of the Year.
Missy Franklin's Accomplishments
2011 saw Franklin compete in the World Aquatics Championships in Shanghai where she won gold medals in the 4x200 meter freestyle relay and 4x100 meter medley relay as well as a silver in the 4x100 meter freestyle relay. Her individual medals included a bronze for the 50 meter backstroke and her first gold medal in the 200 meter backstroke, in which she also broke the national record with a time of 2 minutes and 5.10 seconds. Later that year at the 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup in October, Franklin set her first world record in the 200 meter backstroke with a time of 2 minutes and .03 seconds.

For her performance that season she won the Female Athlete of the Year at the golden goggle awards and was named best female swimmer for 2011 by FINA Aquatics World Magazine. At the 2012 US Olympic Trials, Franklin qualified in four individual events, placing first in the 200 meter backstroke semi-finals (with a time of 2 minutes and 7.91 seconds), the 200 meter backstroke final (with a time of 2 minutes and 6.12 seconds) and the 100 meter backstroke final, in which she broke the US record with a time of 58.85 seconds.
