Today I'll show you how to use templates in MS Excel.Choose the Right Excel Template
Open Excel. The blank document you see is actually the general template that is used every time you open Excel. However, I need a template that is more complex, one that contains borders, proper alignment and text formatting.If you go to file, new, you'll see a sidebar to the right. In the templates section, Ill click On My Computer. This will show me what kinds of templates were installed when I installed excel on my computer. Here's the workbook template or the general template, which opens every time I open a new document. If I click on the spreadsheet solutions tab, you can see a few different options: Balance sheet, Expense sheet, Loan Authorization, Sales invoice, and Time Card. Ill select the sales invoice and click OK to see what it looks like. You can see that this template has much more detail than I would be able to create quickly. Templates are great when you need quick documents that look professional.
Finding Excel Templates Online
Since there are few templates you have locally on your computer, you may want to consider getting a template online from Microsoft. They have a great selection and they're free. I'll go to file, new again to view the sidebar. This time I'll click Templates on office online. My browser opens up to the Microsoft Templates website.As you can see there is a long list of categories for different templates for Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. To find templates just for Excel, I'll type Excel Template in the search bar and press enter. As you can see the page is showing the first 25 results of the top 100 best matches. I'll click the biweekly time sheet and it will open a preview of what the template looks like. It looks good to me so I'll click download now. Then click accept to accept the terms of service. Within a few moments it opens up right in Excel ready for me to enter in my information.
Using Excel Templates
Some templates have sample data but its very easy to replace that with your own information. If you have trouble downloading a template, there are instructions to manually download a template. Click download now, then select save to disk and click OK.
