Transcript:How to Make a Paperback Book Cover With Kids

Hi I’m Chris Davis for As your children come home from the first few days of school they will most likely be carrying text books that their teachers have asked your kids to cover. Of course you can purchase pre-made covers but they can get pretty expensive and that aren’t very personal. Paper Bag book covers are free and you can personalize them any way you would like.

To Make a Paper Bag Book Cover You Will Need:

  • Paper bag
  • Scissors
  • Scotch tape
  • Pencil
  • The book you want to cover

Fold the Paper to the Height of the Book

First cut the paper bag down one side. Continue cutting along the bottom of the bag until you have removed the bottom. You should have a large rectangular piece of paper at this point. Place the paper bag, blank side down, unless you want the store name to be seen on the outside of the finished cover. Open your text book and place it in the center of the paper. With your pencil mark the top and the bottom of your book on the paper. Remove the text book and fold along your mark.

Fold Over the Paper Bag Ends to Form Pockets

At this point your paper bag should be folded to equal the height of the text book, however it will be too long on the sides. Cut each side leaving about three to four inches extra. Fold one side of the paper over the cover of the book. Apply tape to the edges of the paper bag to create a pocket that the cover will eventually slide into. Repeat this process on the other side. but before you add tape to the second side close the book with the cover on it to make sure the book will close properly. now add the final pieces of tape. You have done it. The text book cover should slide onto the pockets of the paper bag to create a vice fit.

Decorate the Paper Bag Book Cover

At this point decorate You can find paper bags at any grocery store. Another option many popular clothing stores and retail stores also carry paper bags. Instead of placing the blank side out you can leave the logos exposed and create a custom cover with a favorite brand. Be creative and have fun.
