Note About Making a Book Cover
The size of the book you choose will dictate the size of the paper you use. You can see that this piece of paper is too small for this book.Instructions for Making a Creative Book Cover
So what I'm going to do is to glue two pieces of paper together. But if your book is larger, you can glue on more paper. The main point is that you want to make sure that your book fits on at least three widths. The next step is to glue the two pieces of paper together. This is not an exact science—just so they overlap nicely. Glue one on top of the other and now you have one large piece of paper to work with.Place the book on the paper and fold the two ends so they meet. Then open up.Next with your pen, draw a line along the top edge of the book and the bottom edge. Then fold the paper along that line all the way across on both the top side and the bottom. Take the book, put on the cover and bring the two ends together again and push the spine up against the cover so its nice and tight. Then fold in both the front cover and back cover. Open up the book and remove it from the cover. Then flip it over on its tummy. Then feed one end right in through the flaps to where you made the initial fold. Take a piece of double sided sticky tape and put a piece on each flap. Now comes the tricky secret part. You want to hold the flaps down as you bring the book cover over them so you get a nice, smooth finish. Then we're going to do the same thing on the other side. The first side of the cover is already tucked in. So now flip it over, and insert the remaining side into the pocket you've made. And look! It's done! You can embellish the book cover with anything you'd like—stickers, stamps—and if it's a gift, why not tie it in a ribbon like we did.
And that's how you make a creative book cover. Thanks for watching. To learn more, visit us on the web on About.com
