Hi, I'm Brent Rose for About.com here at the Peninsula Spa by ESPA in New York City. The Peninsula Spa in NYC Is Highly Recommended
If you're in New York and you've got a some extra bucks to spend on some serious relaxation, the ESPA Spa here at the Peninsula comes highly recommended. Let's check it out. What to Expect at the Peninsula Spa in NYC
Once you get changed, your first stop will be the Heat Experiences Room, where you can enjoy the sauna, aromatherapy steam room, the ice fountain, and the heat experiences shower. Make sure you arrive plenty early so you can really take your time and enjoy them.Once you receive your robe and slippers, guests are ushered into the beautiful Asian Tea Lounge, where you'll receive your welcome tea, macaroon, and oshibori towel in preparation for your treatment.
This is the Peninsula's Private Spa Suite. It features an aromatherapy steam shower in a private bathroom, an oversized soaking tub, a refreshment area with snacks and coconut water, and two separate tables for receiving one of the Peninsula's famous treatments.
After your treatment you're ushered into the very peaceful Relaxation Room where you're cocooned into a nice, comfy bed, you're given a selection of music to choose from, and you have a customizable, adjustable bed.
If you book two or more hours of treatment time, you are invited to use the hotel's Fitness Center. The Fitness Center features a decent array of equipment, and the pool is just long enough for swimming laps, though it's more likely you'll just lounge around, looking out the window.
The Fitness Center also includes this beautiful yoga and movement room complete with hardwood floors, nice views of Manhattan, and a lot of natural light. Speaking of light, aside from the fitness center, you'll notice that the spa is very dark. Personally, I found it relaxing, although you may find it to be too sleep inducing.
It's hard to believe that this quiet oasis is right above 5th Avenue, in one of Manhattan's busiest areas, but I guess that's what makes the Peninsula Spa so special. To learn more, visit us on the web at About.com.
