Transcript:Profile of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel NYC Spa

Hi, I'm Brent Rose for About.com. Thirty-five stories above Columbus Circle in New York City sits the Spa at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. It's 14,000 square feet and it's rated five stars -- let's find out why.

When you first check in you'll be given a warm oshibori towel and a cup of delicious herbal tea. Someone will then come to take your shoes and give you a pair of slippers. You'll then be escorted to the locker room (men's and women's are separate) where you'll change into the silken robe you'll wear for the rest of your stay.

Tour the Heat Experiences Room at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel NYC Spa

From there, it's on to the Heat Experiences Room. This is why they recommend you show up an hour early before your treatment is scheduled. It's so you can take advantage of the Jacuzzi, the amethyst crystal steam room with aroma therapy, and the chromatherapy shower, which has three settings: fog, land rain, and tropical rain.

Once you've enjoyed the Heat Experiences Room, come to the Oriental Tea Lounge to relax with a cup of tea and to wait for your therapist to come get your for your treatment.

This is the VIP Spa Suite. It is a favorite amongst couples and celebrities (because of the privacy it affords). It offers two treatment tables, its own private tub, a lounge area, a fireplace, and this large kang bed. It also includes some pretty decent views of Manhattan, overlooking the Hudson River.

Signature Treatments at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel NYC Spa

This is the Mandarin's Vitamin Infusion Facial, which is part of their facial collection. They use Somme Institute products which deliver vitamins and natural botanicals deep into the skin, which, they say clears the skin and is great for acne and sun damage.

They offer many other signature treatments that included various modalities of massage and skin-care. These treatments include The Clearing Factor; Himalayan Salt, Sea Therapy Chakra Therapy; Thai Yoga Massage; and their famous Time Rituals, which can be customized to your needs.

After your treatment is over, your therapist escorts you to the Relaxation Room, where you're invited to let your treatment soak in for as long as you like. I may just stay a while.

In the heart of "the city that never sleeps" it's hard to imagine a more relaxing place than the Spa at the Mandarin Oriental. The only thing you might not like is the price tag. It's a luxury hotel, and it's a luxury spa, and the price tag is about what you think it would be, but if you've got it to spend, might as well spend it here.
