Hello, I'm Corinne from Shakes Bakes and right now we are going to be going over some tips for cooking scallops.

Tips for Buying and Storing Scallops

There are several varieties of scallops. The two most common are bay scallops which are sweet moist and a little chewy and sea scallops which tend to be sweeter more succulent and lighter in flavor. Avoid scallops that are sitting in any kind of milky liquid substance.

Store by bagging your scallops and placing that bag in a bag of crushed ice. Place in a refrigerator for up to 3 days, 7 days for fresh catch. Replace with fresh ice as it melts.

Tips for Cleaning Scallops

Cleaning the scallops is really simple. Take your scallops and run them under cold water for about a minute. Soon as your done doing that you want to let them drain and you want to pat them dry.

A Quick Recipe for Cooking Scallops

Now that your scallops are nice and clean we're going to cook them. On hand please have 1 pound of scallops, 2 teaspoons of lime juice, 1 teaspoon of garlic salt, 1 tablespoon of melted butter, a whisk and an oven safe dish.

Add half of your garlic salt (that would be half a teaspoon) and your two teaspoons of lime juice to that butter. You wanna whisk it together and you wanna pour it over your pound of scallops. You wanna make sure its coated real well, and take your oven-proof dish and pour the contents over the top. Take the rest of your garlic salt and spread it.

You wanna go ahead and transfer your dish to the broiler and broil for nine minutes. After nine minutes, this is what your scallops should look like if they are perfectly done.

Tips for Searing Scallops

Sear scallops by patting dry with the paper towel. Sprinkle with kosher salt on both sides. Heat a non-stick pan over high heat add a tablespoon of canola oil.

When you notice a little smoke place the scallops flat side down on the hot pain to crust for two minutes. Flip and sear for one minute on the other side. These were some tips on cooking scallops.
