Transcript:Tips for Cooking Chicken in a CrockpotHi, I am Ibn with About.com and here are some tips on cooking chicken in a crockpot.
Prepare the Crockpot and Chicken for RoastingTo prep your crockpot, spray it with non-stick oil or butter so the chicken does not get stuck to the bottom or sides. Rinse your chicken in warm water for about a minute to wash away any residue. Any type of whole chicken will work.
After rinsing the chicken place it in a crockpot. Because the chicken produces natural liquids while cooking, there is no need to add water. If you want to add additional water, add only a cup or two so your crock pot won't overfill. Painting any type of barbecue sauce over the chicken adds a crispy top layer when cooked.
Tips for Seasoning When Cooking Chicken in a CrockpotTo add flavor, sprinkle salt and pepper on it. You can add additional spices like paprika, garlic, lemon pepper, etc. Paint spices on as well. Cover all areas.
Cooking chicken in a crockpot works best with vegetables. Place chopped tomatoes, carrots, celery, and potatoes all around the chicken. It is better if you pack it really tight so all the flavor goes in the chicken. Top everything off with additional salt and pepper.
Crockpot Settings for Cooking ChickenIf you cook on high, your chicken will be done in five to six hours. If you cook on low, let it cook for eight to nine hours. To ensure your chicken is well-cooked, check on it every now and again.
