Hi, I'm Stephanie Gallagher for About.com, and today, we're making a macaroni salad with ham and cheese. This recipe comes from the About.com Southern Food site.Ingredients Needed for Macaroni Salad
- 1 cup uncooked macaroni
- Approximately 1 cup cubed cooked ham
- 1 cup cheddar cheese cubes
- 1/2 cup chopped celery
- 1/3 cup chopped red bell pepper (you could use green, yellow or orange bell peppers)
- 1/4 cup chopped green onions (or you could use finely chopped red onion instead)
- 1/4 cup sweet pickle relish
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1 Tbsp. prepared mustard
- 1/4 tsp. salt
Cook the Macaroni
Fill a large pot about three-quarters of the way with water. Bring to a boil over high heat. Add the macaroni, and cool until al dente - about 8 minutes. You can taste it to see if it's done the way you like it.Combine Ingredients and the Mix Macaroni Salad
Drain the macaroni. Then transfer to a large bowl. Add the ham, cheese, celery, red peppers, onions and pickle relish. Then mix it all together. Now in a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, mustard and salt. Stir them together. This is going to be your dressing for the macaroni salad. Now add the dressing to the salad, and mix it all together.Storing and Transporting Your Macaroni Salad
Now if you want to take this salad to a picnic, just make sure you refrigerate it for several hours before leaving and keep it in an insulated bag with a frozen cold pack until you're ready to serve. Place the serving bowl in an ice bath. And here's your macaroni salad with ham and cheese. Thanks for watching. For more great recipes just like this one, join us on the web at About.com.
