Transcript:How to Make Tilapia With a Buttery Crumb Topping
Hi, I'm Gary Chisholm with About.com, and today we're making tilapia with a savory buttery crumb topping, using a recipe from About.com's Southern Food site. This dish is so good, my family and I ate it as finger food.Ingredients for Tilapia With Buttery Crumb Topping
For this recipe you'll need:- About a pound and a half of tilapia fillets
- Three tablespoons of butter
- One cup of soft fresh breadcrumbs
- Half a tablespoon of dried basil leaves
- Salt and pepper
Instructions for Making Tilapia With Buttery Crumb Topping
Heat the oven to four hundred degrees. Lightly grease a large shallow baking dish. Melt the butter in the microwave for about 15 seconds. You can use prepared bread crumbs, but making your own is quick and easy. Just use a cheese grater on a slice of whole-grain bread to make instant, fresh and soft breadcrumbs. Arrange the tilapia fillets in a single layer on the dish and sprinkle salt and pepper on top. In a separate bowl, melt the butter in the microwave. Then mix it together with the basil and a bit more salt and pepper. Then stir in your breadcrumbs.Sprinkle the buttery breadcrumbs evenly over the tilapia filets.Bake the fish fillets in the oven for fifteen to eighteen minutes. Test it to see if it's cooked all the way through. You can tell by taking a fork to the edge of the fish. If the fish flakes off easily, it's ready. One last step before you serve this savory dish. Put it into the broiler for about three minutes. This will brown the breadcrumb topping. Personally I like to add a little bit of Parmesan to give it a little extra zest.Check out Food.About.com for more great recipes, and thanks for watching.
