Transcript:How to Make Spicy Fried Chicken TendersHi, I’m Gina Miller with About.com Food and today I’m making spicy chicken tenders. Now don’t let the word spicy scare you, you can always turn down the heat, and in this recipe it’s the buttermilk marinade that really makes these chicken tenders extra flavorful and tender. Chicken tenders are a favorite finger food, great for parties and family gatherings.
To Make Spicy Chicken Tender, You'll Need:
- 1 to 1 1/2 pounds of boneless chicken tenders
- 1 1/2 cups of low fat buttermilk
- 2 tablespoons of salt
- 1 teaspoon of pepper
- 1 tablespoon of garlic powder
- 1/2 cup of liquid hot sauce
- 2 cups of all-purpose flour
- 2 to 3 cups of vegetable oil
Marinate the Chicken in the Hot Sauce Before Dredging in the Flour MixtureOk, here’s how to prepare your spicy chicken tenders. In a large food storage bag, combine the buttermilk, 1 teaspoon of the salt, 1/2 teaspoon of the pepper, 1 teaspoon of the garlic powder and the liquid hot sauce. Now add the chicken and seal the plastic bag, toss to coat all of the pieces, and refrigerate for about 2 hours. In another plastic bag combine the flour plus the remaining salt, pepper, and garlic powder. After the chicken has marinated for at least 2 hours, add the chicken and toss to coat thoroughly.
Deep Fry the Chicken or Bake for a Low-Fat OptionHeat the vegetable oil in a deep heavy skillet or a deep fryer to 350°. Today we’re using a deep fryer. Fry 3 to 4 pieces of chicken at a time, turning until the chicken becomes a deep golden brown. Usually this takes about 6 to 8 minutes for each batch.
Now here’s a tip: If you are watching your cholesterol and want a lower caloric intake, simply bake the chicken tenders at 350 degrees in an oven for 30 minutes instead of frying them. Serve the spicy chicken tenders warm with your favorite dipping sauce or salad dressings like Ranch, blue cheese or Honey Mustard. This recipe Serves 4 to 6.
