Transcript:How to Make Self-Rising Flour

Hi there, I'm Anne Marie Lusby for About.com, and today I am going to teach you how to make self-rising flour. In today's economy why buy something when you can just make it yourself?

Making your own self-rising flour is the perfect way to start any baking project, because later on you will not need to add any baking powder, because you have already done it. This will take about 15 minutes and it's super easy.

Ingredients and Supplies for Self-Rising Flour

For this recipe you are going to need:
  • 1 large mixing bowl
  • 6 cups of flour
  • 3 tablespoons baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon salt

Make the Self-Rising Flour

Once we have our ingredients, it is time to combine them. First add the flour, than add the baking powder and last but not least add the salt. Now you can sift this together or you can mix with a wire whisk. We are going to use a whisk to insure it is well combined. And you're done. It's as easy as that.

Tips for Storing the Self-Rising Flour

Now you can store this flour in an airtight container for months without going bad. A few tips to remember when making your own self-rising flour: when it comes time to use it measure it out just like you would regular flour. Also, always store dry goods in an airtight container to avoid moisture or infestation.
