Mashed Sweet Potatoes Ingredients

Mashed sweet potatoes are a hearty yet easy dish to make using a few basic ingredients. To create, you will need:
  • 6 sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup maple syrup

Cooking the Mashed Sweet Potatoes

Fill a large pot with salted water and place on high heat. Peel each sweet potato and cut into large cubes. Cutting the sweet potatoes into cubes helps it soften faster than leaving each potato whole. The easiest way to peel a potato before it is cooked is using a sharp knife. Check the water to determine whether it has come to a rolling boil. Add potatoes to the boiling water and cook until tender, which should take between 20 and 30 minutes. Once the potatoes are tender, pour them into a colander to drain the excess water. Transfer potatoes to a large glass mixing bowl. With an electric mixer on low, blend potatoes, slowly adding milk, about 1/2 a cup at a time. For thicker potatoes, use less milk. For creamier sweet potatoes, use more milk. Add butter and maple syrup to taste and continue to blend until smooth. Serve mashed sweet potatoes warm.
