Transcript:How to Make Holiday Sweet Potatoes

Hi, I'm Scott for About.com. Today I'm going to show you how to make holiday sweet potatoes using a recipe from SouthernFood.About.com.

Ingredients for the Holiday Sweet Potatoes

Before you get started, you'll need a few ingredients:

  • 6 large sweet potatoes (baked, peeled, and mashed)
  • 3 eggs
  • 1-1/4 cups of milk
  • 1/4 cup of quality bourbon
  • 1-1/2 cups of sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon of allspice
  • 2 teaspoons of vanilla
  • mini-marshmallows

Blend the Ingredients for the Holiday Sweet Potatoes

To begin, preheat your oven at 350°. Add the mashed sweet potatoes to a large mixing bowl. Pour in the milk. Add the eggs. Pour in the bourbon. Add the sugar. Blend the mixture well. Sprinkle with salt. Add the cinnamon. Sprinkle in the allspice. Finally, pour in the vanilla. Stir thoroughly with a blender. If you need to, add a little additional milk. Blend until the potatoes are fluffy.

Bake the Holiday Sweet Potatoes

Grease a casserole dish. Now, ladle the mixture into the dish. Bake at 350° for 20-30 minutes or until the sweet potatoes set. Remove from the oven and garnish with marshmallows. Now continue baking until the marshmallows melt and brown slightly.

Variation on the Holiday Sweet Potatoes Recipe

If you prefer, you can simply garnish the sweet potatoes with orange zest instead of marshmallows. Just make sure that it is finely grated you can then skip the final baking step. This recipe makes 8 servings.
