Transcript:How to Make Hamburger Stroganoff

Hi I’m Gina Miller with Food and today we’re making hamburger stroganoff. Now, stroganoff is hearty dish that is full of warmth and flavor, and by using hamburger meat, this becomes a simple and more economical version, especially when you are in a hurry.

Ingredients You’ll Need for Hamburger Stroganoff:

  • 1/2 pound of lean ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon of olive or vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup of chopped yellow onions
  • 1 cup of sliced dark mini bella mushrooms sliced
  • 1 teaspoon of chopped fresh garlic
  • 1 package of wide egg noodles, cooked and drained
  • 1/2 cup of beef broth
  • 1/4 - 1/2 cup of sour cream
  • 2 teaspoons of dry herb seasoning.

Hamburger Stroganoff Seasoning Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 tablespoons of paprika
  • 2 tablespoons of salt
  • 2 tablespoons of garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon of black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon of oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg
Thoroughly combine all of these ingredients and keep the remainder in an air tight glass jar for use in other beef recipes.

First, Brown the Hamburger Beef in a Large Skillet

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat for just one minute because olive oil will burn quickly. Add the ground beef and brown until all the pink has disappeared. Drain off any excess oil and lower the heat to medium low and return meat to the stove top. Add the onions and cook, stirring until the onions are soft about 3 to 4 minutes. Add the mushrooms and garlic and continue to cook on medium low, stirring until the mushrooms have released their juices about 2 minutes. Add the beef broth and sour cream. Cook, stirring, until the mixture thickens slightly.Cover the skillet and simmer on low heat for 5 to 8 minutes.

Complete the Stroganoff by Preparing the Egg Noodles

In a large pasta or soup pot bring to boil 4 quarts of water and 2 tablespoons of salt. Add the egg noodles and cook according to directions on package. The noodles I’m using today will cook in 6-8 minutes. When cooked to desired doneness or al dente, drain the noodles and place on a large serving platter. Use a soup ladle to scoop the hamburger stroganoff and pour over the cooked egg noodles. Serve with warm bread and a fresh green salad for a wonderful, hearty yet easy dish.
