Transcript:How to Make Fluffy Cocoa Frosting
Hi, I'm Scott for About.com. Today I'm going to show you how to make fluffy cocoa frosting using a recipe from SouthernFood.About.com.
Ingredients for the Fluffy Cocoa Frosting
Before you get started, you'll need a few ingredients:
- 2/3 cups of milk
- 3 tablespoons of flour
- 6 tablespoons of butter
- 5 tablespoons of shortening or additional butter
- 2/3 cup of sugar
- 1/4 cup of cocoa
- 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla
Create a Base for the Fluffy Cocoa Frosting
To begin, pour the milk into a medium saucepan. Slowly blend in the flour. Stir well. Now cook the mixture on medium heat until it thickens and the lumps are fully blended. Remove from the heat. Allow the milk and flour mixture to cool. In a separate bowl, add the butter and shortening if you are using it. Shortening will make the recipe fluffier, however, I prefer to use all butter for this recipe. Add the sugar. Now cream these ingredients together.
Beat and Finish the Fluffy Cocoa Frosting
Slowly blend in the cocoa. Pour in the cool flour and milk. Blend these mixture until it had a light and fluffy texture. Make sure that any granules of sugar are fully dissolved. Now go ahead and mix in the vanilla. To ice a 2-layer cake, add a large dollop of frosting to the center of the cake and spread outward in broad circles. Remember too much frosting is usually better than too little.
