Transcript:How to Make Crockpot Spaghetti Sauce

Hi, I’m Professional Chef Kara Mickelson, owner and founder of Creative Culinary Group. And today, I’m here with, and I’m going to show you how to make Crock Pot spaghetti sauce.

The Ingredients for Crock Pot Spaghetti Sauce Are:

  • 2 pieces of bacon
  • 2-3 pounds of hamburger
  • 1 small carrot – diced
  • 1-4 stalks of celery – diced small
  • 2 large onions – diced
  • 6 cloves of garlic – minced
  • 1 small can of tomato paste, or you can use the tube kind
  • 2 cups of red wine
  • 1 28-ounce can of crushed tomatoes, that will be filled with water afterwards
  • 1 15-ounce can of tomato sauce, again the can will be filled with water
  • 1 pork spare rib

First Sauté the Meat for the Spaghetti Sauce

First we’re going to start with our main ingredients and we’re going to sauté them in a large sauté pan. Beginning with the two pieces of bacon, we’re going to get those lightly browned. Next we’re going to add in our ground hamburger. The hamburger is going to take a little while to brown, and we want a nice brown crust. Next we’re going to add our carrots and celery. Just mix everything up. Let it cook for a little bit. Then we’ll add in the diced onions. Again, mix everything up. Let it cook just a little bit. Then add the six cloves of minced garlic. You don’t want to add the garlic too soon, because you don’t want it to burn. Next we’re going to add the tomato paste. Last we’re going to deglaze our pan with the two cups of red wine, and we’re going to let that just cook a little bit before we transfer everything to the Crock Pot.

Add Ingredients to the Crock Pot

So now that the meat and vegetable mixture is all cooked, we’re going to add it to the Crock Pot. Get all of those nice, crispy flavorful bits. And we’re going to add in our pork spare rib, and that’s going to add flavor. And then next, we’re going to add in our tomato sauce – so one can of sauce, 15 ounces; and then our crushed tomatoes – 28 ounces. And as you can see, there’s not quite enough fluid in here so we’re going to go ahead and add some water to the cans, and then pour that into the Crock Pot. Now that everything is in the Crock Pot, we’re going to cook it on low. I’m going to cover it, and we’re going to let that go for about 6-7 hours, minimum.

Grind the Spaghetti Sauce for a Bolognese Stye Gravy

So I’ve removed the spaghetti sauce from the Crock Pot and I’ve taken out the pork spare rib. So we’re going to go ahead and I’m going to put this into the food mill and grind it up. And the reason we’re going to do that is it’s going to create a more traditional Bolognese style sauce. So, be careful pouring it in – it’s going to splash. And you’re probably going to do this in a couple of sections. And then we’re just going to grind it down, and we’re going to get the juice and then we’re going to get the ground meat and the vegetables. Now here’s our completed spaghetti sauce with the Bolognese style meat in there.
