Hi, I'm Stephanie Gallagher for About.com, and today, we're making crockpot BBQ chicken wings.
Ingredients for the Crockpot BBQ Chicken Wings
For this recipe, you will need:
- 3 lbs. chicken wings (try to get them with the wing tips cut off already and separated into the drum and flat -- otherwise you'll have to trim them yourself)
- salt and pepper
- 1-1/2 cups barbecue sauce (any kind you like)
- 1/4 cup honey
- 2 tsp. mustard (I'm using a spicy mustard, but you can use whatever you like)
- 2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
- a few dashes of Tabasco, to taste (that's optional)
Brown the Crockpot BBQ Chicken Wings
Preheat the oven to broil. Season the chicken wings with salt and pepper. Now drizzle a little olive oil on a baking sheet or jellyroll pan. Then transfer the chicken wings to the pan, and we're going to broil them for 10 minutes.
Make the Sauce for the Crockpot BBQ Chicken Wings
Meanwhile, let's make the sauce. Put the barbecue sauce, honey, mustard, Worcestershire sauce and Tabasco in a bowl, and whisk them together. Don't be shy about the Tabasco. Slow cooking tends to mute the flavors of food, so adding a little Tabasco can perk it up. And it won't end up being very spicy.
Ok, now that the chicken wings are browned on one side, turn them over, and put them back in the oven for another 10 minutes or until browned on the other side.
Transfer the Crockpot BBQ Chicken Wings to the Slow Cooker
Then transfer the wings to the slow cooker. Pour the sauce over the chicken wings. Cover, and cook on low for 4-5 hours or high for 2 to 2-1/2 hours.
And here are your Crockpot BBQ chicken wings.
