Hi, this is Angela with About.com, and today I am going to show you how to make corned beef and cabbage in a crock pot. Some of the best corned beef I have ever had was cooked in a crock pot and it is so easy.
Ingredients for the Crock Pot Corned Beef and Cabbage
You will need the following ingredients:
- 6 to 8 medium potatoes, peeled and cut into thick (about 1/2-inch) slices
- 3 medium carrots, thinly sliced
- 2 ribs celery, thinly sliced
- 1 corned beef brisket, about 3 pounds
- 1 cabbage, about 2 pounds
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1-1/2 cup water
- 3 teaspoons minced garlic
- 2 teaspoon cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sugar
Prep the Crock Pot Corned Beef and Cabbage
Peel and slice the potatoes, the carrots, the onions and celery. Now, place the corned beef in the crock pot and add the vegetables. Mix the water, garlic, sugar, vinegar, pepper and spice packet, and pour over the vegetables. Cover the crock pot and cook on low for 8-9 hours. For faster cooking, set on high for 4-6 hours.
Finish and Serve the Crock Pot Corned Beef and Cabbage
Place the cabbage wedges on top for the last 20 minutes of cooking. If there are any leftovers, it makes great sandwiches.
