Transcript:How to Make Chocolate Sour Cream Frosting
Hi, I'm Scott for About.com. Today I'm going to show you how to make chocolate sour cream frosting using a recipe from SouthernFood.About.com.
Ingredients for the Chocolate Sour Cream Frosting
This easy-to-make frosting is made with chocolate chips, sour cream and butter. Before you get started, you'll need a few ingredients:
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2-1/2 to 2-3/4 cups sifted confectioners' sugar
Melt the Chocolate for the Chocolate Sour Cream Frosting
We will start making this recipe by melting the chocolate chips in a double boiler. If you don’t have a double boiler, you can make an improv one with a heat safe boil and a medium sauce pan. Make sure the bowl is larger than the saucepan so it doesn't sink into the pan. Fill the bottom of the saucepan with water. Bring to a boil. Now submerge the bottom of your heat-safe bowl.
Pour in the chocolate chips. Add the butter. Allow the chips and butter to melt. Now remove the bowl from the heat.
Beat the Chocolate Sour Cream Frosting
Pour in the sour cream. Add the vanilla. Now sprinkle with salt. Now beat the confections sugar in slowly, until it reaches a fluffy, creamy consistency. Melt chocolate chips with butter in top of double boiler over hot water. Remove from hot water; stir in sour cream, vanilla, and salt. Slowly beat in confectioners' sugar until desired spreading consistency is reached. This recipe should make enough frosting for a bundt or a 2-layer cake.
